He was predeceased by : his parents, Rich Portinga and Grace Portinga. He is survived by : his wife Shirley; his children, Tim (Laura Portinga), Todd (Kris Portinga), Cindy (Lincoln Clements) and Chris (Krista Portinga); and his grandchildren, Nicole, Holly, Tyler, Johanna, Stephen, Jon, Jenna, Jake and Sam.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Memorials can be donated to CentraCare Hospice or First Covenant Church in Jim's memory.
