He is survived by: his children, Lee Smith (Janet) and Wendy Merila of Albertville; his grandchildren, Wyatt, Garrett Smith, Brooke Bogenholm (Teague), Boston, Brody Merila, Adam Astor, Amanda Sullivan-Astor (Kyle) and Ashley Astor (Nate Lutmer); his great grandchildren, Brynn and Beckett Sullivan-Astor; his siblings, Georgia Manska of Morris and Gary Smith (Elna) of Hancock; and his sisters-in-law, Jacki Burmeister of North St and Bonita Smith (Pat Jacobs) of Morris.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to honor Rick's life may be directed to Vinje Lutheran Church or the Willmar Public Library.
