It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Irene Hultquist of Windom, Minnesota, who passed away on September 9, 2021, at the age of 97, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Emil A. Carlson and Anna B. Carlson (Busch); her husband CJ Hultquist; her son Larry Edwin Hultquist; and her siblings, Ernest, Ray, Herbert Carlson and Della Dierks.

She is survived by: her daughter Linda Garms (Dennis) of Janesville; her daughter-in-law Carolyn Perala Hultquist of Pinedale, WY; her great grandchildren, Clint Hultquist of Pinedale, WY, Jennifer Hultquist Griffin (Eric) of Mullica Hill, NJ, Travis Garms (Amy) of Houston, TX and Nicole Garms Pudwell (Scott) of Pewaukee, WI; her brother William Carlson (Marilyn) of Tracy, MN; Brooke Commodore (Gabe), Ashleigh Hultquist, Zachary, Makayla, Charlie, Henry, Joshua and Ashley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

“The sadness for me is it is the end of a generation of our family that I have so many wonderful memories with: visiting back and forth, family reunions, going to CJ and Irene's waiting for Grandma Hultquist to arrive on the train putting pennies on the track, butchering chickens at our house, Irene's house full of antiques and our very special Christmas Eves together.”

“When I was young I would spend a week at CJ and Irene's during the summer. One night Irene gave us lemon soda and ice cream as a Treat. I guess I had too much because it upset my stomach. I was running down the stairs behind Larry And barfed all over his back. I can still see the whole scenario. Everyone laughed except Larry and me. I can still see Irene standing there laughing. I loved her laugh. And throughout the rest of her life I think that was one of her favorite stories.”

“because we talked about it almost every time we were together. One time she bought a dress that didn't fit her right and she gave it to me. I still remember the dress. And the crochet angel she made for me is very special. So sorry I couldn't be with you. Lovely service, singer and pianist were wonderful.”
