He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Melzer and Bertha Melzer (Studtmann); his wife Bonita "Bunny" Melzer; his son Marlin Melzer; his siblings, Herb Melzer (Elsie), Rueben Melzer (Bethel), Viola Sellin (Devere "Butch") and Clara Nelson; his parents-in-law, Clayton and Deloris Derby; and his in-laws, Gloria Selberg (Don) and Marvin Osborn.
He is survived by: his children, Ron Melzer (Cindy) of Afton, Sharon Jenniges (Tim) of Windom, Vern Melzer (Anastasia) of Colorado Springs, CO and Larry Melzer of Brasstown, NC; and his sister-in-law June Osborn of Hills. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren.
