He was predeceased by: his parents, Louise Smith (Link) and Leo B. Smith; his children, Mary Ann and Michael; and his siblings, Leo G. Smith, Evelyn Lawrence, Gloria Constable and Joan Madigan.
He is survived by: his wife Mardell of Winona; his children, Richard of Winona, Robert (Jan) of Arvada, CO and Nancy Erickson (Tom) of Winona; and his grandchildren, Sarah Miranda (Mark), Madelyn Bohn (Patrick), Reid Smith (Margaret), Graham Smith (Dani), Barrett Smith (Charlie Ruckman), Lincoln Smith, Laura Siebenaler (Jake) and Amy Sletten (Sam). He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
