He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Willis and Irene Venzula Ames (Sands); his wife Dorothy Day; his children, Elizabeth Sue Ames, Lora Mae Ames and Anthony G. Ames; and his siblings, Audrey Scott and Walter Lee Ames.

He is survived by: his children, Wesley Ames (Myong), Teresa Parisi (Joseph), David Ames, Ken Ames (Sherri), Robin Coglianese (David), Joseph Ames, Sara Ames, Ruth Larimore, Sam Ames (April) and Jason Ames; his sister Cheryl Silva; and his friend Linda Morris. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with many nephews and nieces.
