He was predeceased by: his parent Betty Tate (Souder); his in-laws, Leo and Kay Thompson; and his brothers, Mike, Bill and Joe Tate.

He is survived by: his wife Cathy; his daughters, Karen (Jacob Tidwell) and Melissa (Jeffory Searcy); his grandchildren, Shiloh Searcy, Hailey Searcy, Brody Tidwell, Tyson Tidwell and Lane Searcy; his great grandchildren, Nova, Dawson and Wrenley; his brothers, Ralph Overcast, Rick Tate and Herman "Kelly" Tate; and his pet Happy Jack Tate.
