He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Smoot and Willie Bell Carter-Smoot; his children, Steve Smoot, Stacy Smoot and Lisa Jones; and his siblings, Walter Smoot Jr., John Smoot, Mack Smoot, Carolyn Smoot and Mary Sharon.
He is survived by: his children, James P. Smoot (Kim), Larry E. Smoot, Tyrone Smoot, Phyllis D. Bryant (Maurice) and Toni Smith (Timothy); and his siblings, Willie Smoot (Ida), George Smoot (Ollie), Charles Smoot, Jesse Lee Smoot, Hubert Smoot (Callie), Hattie Manuel, Ella Segers Backus, Glendora Green (James), Laura Williamson, Martha Wilson (Gary), Linda Williams (James) and Robert Lee Smoot. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 15th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Ponder Funeral Home (1120 N Main St, Sikeston, MO 63801).
