He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Pettus and Norma Pettus; and his siblings, Jim Pettus and Carolyn Grebe. He is survived by: his wife Judy Pettus; his children, Johnny Pettus (Miranda), Julie Novotny (Timothy) and Joanie Smith (Mark); his grandchildren, John "Dylan" Pettus, Chase Carroll (Shelbie), Landon Carroll, Nora Smith, Kaylee Novotny, Jedediah Smith, Colton Jenkins and Levi Jenkins; and his siblings, Debbie Higgins and Edwin Pettus.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Bonne Terre Chapel (313 Benham St, Bonne Terre, MO 63628). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 15th 2025 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John's honor to the Disabled Veterans Association.
