She was predeceased by : her parents, Matthew Hubbard and Florence Hubbard (Stone); her former life partner Sam Smith; her husband Newton Shaw; her son James Smith; and her siblings, Clyde Hubbard, Robert Hubbard, Norman Hubbard, Nancy Lever and Ruth Shaw.

She is survived by : her children, Michele Mercado, Jean Pestlen (Michael), Dianne Janish (Ronald), Scott Shaw (Teresa) and Sandra Schaub (Charlie); her grandchildren, Andrea Gresens (Matthew), Jessica Caldwell (Britton), Joshua Gresens (Angela), Noelia Mercado, Prenda Mercado, Carrie Baxter (Kerry), Elizabeth George (Dustin), Megan Miller, Cory Shaw (Gabrielle), Jacob Staufenberger, Clayton Schaub and Caryn Peeples; and her great grandchildren, Ashton Prince, Chay Grooms, Cordell Gresens, Dylan Gresens, Dylan Baxter, Patrick Baxter, Anna George, Kate George, Allie George, Michael Miller, Ryan Miller, Sophia Shaw and Tristan Peeples.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital of Olean, New York, an organization close to Thelma's heart, in her memory.
