He was predeceased by: his parents, Susie Mathes (McDonald) and Marvin Mathes; his granddaughter Shantelle; and his siblings, Clarence "Pete" Mathes, Ruby Mathes, Josephine Pruitt, Erma Arttus, John "Benny" Mathes and Marvin.
He is survived by: his daughter Tonya Mathes (Bobby Martinez) of Trinidad, CO; his grandchildren, Desiree Carreon, Crystal Carreon, Christian Escontrias and Benito Jiron Robert Mathes; his great grandchild Oliver; his sister Anne K. Moehrle; his close friend Sandy Burgmeyer; his brother-in-law Myron Arttus; and his pets, Sophie and Ebony. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
