He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernard and Rachel; and his wife Joyce. He is survived by: his children, Darryl Smith (Juan), Norvell Smith, Jr., Gerald B. Smith, Karen L. Matthews and Theodore G. Matthews. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
