He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Spurgeon and Viola Marks Spurgeon; his stepson Stacey Brooks; his siblings, Dorothy Desvaux, Betty VanWinkle, Calvin, Wilford "George", Cecil and Bill Spurgeon; and his half-brother Elmer Spurgeon.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Spurgeon of Canton; and his children, Larry Spurgeon (Joann) of Canton, Dale Spurgeon (Ann) of Texas, Curtis Spurgeon (Shelly Cady) of Canton, Karen Gottman (Larry) of Palmyra, Becky Blackburn (John) of Canton and Cathy Arrowsmith of Columbus. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces & nephews.
