She was predeceased by: her parents, Grover Benjamin Leander and Esther Ellen Snider Hitt; and her siblings, Earnest, Eugene, Herschel (Mary), Leon (Thelma), Cecil (Leona), Herman, Paul, Roby Hitt (Vernetta "Babe"), Leatha Rister (Ebert) and Myrtle Reed (Ed).

She is survived by: her husband Charles Gary; her daughters, Connie Lucille Estopinal (Eric) of Houston and Donna Jean Williams of Carbondale, Illinois; her great grandchildren, Jason Charles Babbitt (Michelle), Kriste Elizabeth Del Castillo (Brian) and Dane Marcus Babbitt (Laura); and her sisters-in-law, Peggy Hitt and Mary Jean Hitt of Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Centenary United Methodist Church, The Chateau Girardeau Foundation, Southeast Hospice or a charity of choice.

“Sadly, I never got a chance to meet Marie. I am working on Hitt Family Genealogy book and was able to see and copy several pages out of the book that she wrote on the Cape Girardeau branch of the Hitts. It is clear she loved the family history. It has been very helpful in my research on that part of the family. I don't know if her daughters get notified of this but I would love a chance to visit about the family and had a couple of questions. My cell number 417-392-1167.”
