He is survived by: his wife Doris; his children, Jeannie Smithson (Scott) of Town, Bradley (Editha) of Frohna and Robert (Cheryl) of Chesterfield; his sister Dorothy Hemman of Brazeau; his sister-in-law Dolores Schmidt; his grandchildren, Scott Smithson (Colleen), Katie Marion (Dan), Shane Smithson (Chelsea), Melinda Jones (Bart) and Mark Carlton (Laurie); and his great grandchildren, Noel, Garrett Smithson, Hudson, Cecilia Smithson, Lilly, Olive, Atlas Carlton, Alice and Mitchell Kramer.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church (100 N Frederick St, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Mel and Doris Schmidt Saxony Student Aid Endowment Fund at Saxony High School, Trinity Lutheran Church, or your charity of choice.
