Johnny Gaither Jr. Obituary

Johnny Edward "Peanut" Gaither, Jr., age 67, passed away on August 8, 2025, in Neosho, Missouri. Born on February 21, 1958, in Visalia, California, Johnny lived a life full of adventure, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.

Johnny’s journey behind the wheel began nearly five decades ago when he started truck driving alongside his best friend Terry. His passion for the open road led him into the logging industry before he joined Wipf Construction, where he spent 14 years driving dump trucks and Indumps. Eventually, Johnny relocated to Missouri and continued his long-standing career in trucking—a profession that became both his livelihood and his legacy.

Known affectionately as “Peanut” by those who loved him, Johnny was more than just a skilled driver; he was a man of integrity whose word meant everything. He had an infectious smile and a natural gift for making people laugh with ease. Whether it was through his legendary burnouts or tales of wild ambulance chases, Johnny brought energy and joy wherever he went. He was the heart of every conversation and the soul of every gathering.

Johnny had a deep love for motorcycles and found great joy participating in bike runs and truckers’ light parades. These hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit and love for community—he thrived in moments that brought people together.

He was a devoted husband to Sue Gaither of 37 years, marrying in 1992 and a cherished brother to Robbin Pacheco. His role as a father and grandfather was one he embraced wholeheartedly. He leaves behind daughters Trisha Barber (children Olivia, Marjhanae, Marliana, and Marlin), Jalyn Gaither (children Eli and Adam), Amea Rush (son Grant), Hailey Wheeler and her spouse Scott Wheeler (children Paizley, Presley, and Ella); son Joshua Norton and his wife Arrow Norton (children Levi and Brennan); son Blake Williams; niece Bethany Dennis and her husband William Dennis (children Leah, Avah, and Noah), Nephew Jacob Pacheco.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Edward Gaither Sr. and Wanda Kathiel Gaither.
To those who knew him best—and even those who met him only once—Johnny was an absolute legend. He was loving, caring, funny, kind-hearted, adventurous—a great father, grandfather, friend—and above all else, genuine.

As Johnny always said: “Keep On Keepin On.” His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. A Memorial Service will be held on August 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Simpson Funeral Home-101 N Main st Carl Junction, Mo 64834
