He was predeceased by: his wife Madge Shanks; his children, Dennis Shanks and De Melton; his parents, Frank Frey and Blanche Frey; his siblings, Beverly Shanks, Patrick Shanks and Clifford Shanks; his grandchildren, Aaron, Dustin Alton and Chelsey Beavers; his great grandchildren, Adrianna and Mazie Ann Shanks; and his son Jim Chittenden of Ames.
He is survived by: his children, Donna Shanks of Carthage, Missouri, Dale Shanks of Carthage and David Shanks of Hardy, Arkansas; and his sister Lucille Hendrickson (Buddy) of Belton, Missouri. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren.
