He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Virginia Abeln (Davies); his children, Suzanne Louise Lane (Steve) of Hernando, Jean Virginia Holtgrewe (Joe) of Smithville, Richard Werner Abeln Jr. of Cedar Hill and Elizabeth Lea Dreyfuss (Shannon) of Castle Rock, Colorado.; his grandchildren, Virginia Louise DiNenna (Michael), Anna Marjorie Gude (Nathan), Stephen Andrew Lane (Josie), Joshua Kenneth Holtgrewe (Rachel), Jacob Richard Holtgrewe (Caroline), Jennifer Lea Schmidt (Eric), Jane Virginia Marquart (Brian), Richard Werner Abeln III, Danielle Radtke (Allen), Lane Elizabeth Ryan (Will), Jack Buchanan Dreyfuss, David Luke Dreyfuss and Colton Hall Dreyfuss; and his great grandchildren, Ambrose, Theia, Baby DiNenna, Graham, Lydia, Baby Lane, Augustus, Ezekiel, Penelope, Jackson, Annie, Emma, Henry, Landon, Lillian, Baby Marquart, Robin, Ariel, Alexis and Mason.
Visitation was held on Friday, October 24th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (8646 Sappington Rd, St. Louis, MO 63126). A funeral service was held on Friday, October 24th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
