She was predeceased by: her parents, Samuel Burt and Leta Mae Burt (Case); her husband Walter Nevels; her granddaughter Shantae Hill-Cook; and her daughter Monique.

She is survived by: her children, Andre Cook (Kathy) of Columbia, Tonja "T. J." Cook, Churice Cook of Nashville, Mariah Nevels of Memphis and James Navels of Osaka, Japan; her siblings, Barb Laval of Los Angeles, Sharon Leathers of Florissant, John Burt and Yvonne Burt of Colorado Springs; her sister-in-law Susan Burt of Manitou Springs, Colorado; and her grandchildren, Shellie, Janae Keyes of Nashville, Sheridan Pinerola of Louisville and Holly Payne of El Paso. She is also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in her honor.
