John leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. John’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around him. Though he is no longer with us, the moments shared, the laughter, and the support he offered will continue to resonate. All who knew John will carry forward his memory in their hearts.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilbert Bartel and Flora Bartel (Kosark); his brother Jay Bartel; and his daughter Catherine Elsenraat. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Bartel (Chadbourne); his sister Joann Morton of St Louis, MO; his son Richard (Sarah Bartel) of Ashland, MO; and his grandchildren, Jeffrey (Christina Elsenraat) of Republic, MO and Jennifer (Tony Herzog) of Bloomsdale, MO. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, August 25th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home (1221 Washington St, Hermann, MO 65041). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 25th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Paul UCC, or the cemetery.
