He was predeceased by: his parents, Earle Smith and Betty Smith (Brandecker); his wife Ellen; and his children, Barry and Terri Smith.

He is survived by: his daughter Sonya Smith of Corpus Christi, Texas; and his siblings, Diane McCain, Donna Craddock (Mike), Deborah Smith and Daniel Smith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
