He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy A. Schmitz and Emma M. Schmitz (Kohmetscher); his wife Martha "Marty" Volner (Graham); and his brothers, Roy Joseph Schmitz and Harold Schmitz.
He is survived by: his children, Jeany Volner, John Volner and Julie Smail (Tracy); his grandchildren, Amanda Donnici (Mark), Jordan Morrison and Tessa Shelley; his great grandchildren, Olivia and Michael Donnici; his siblings, Betty Runde and Ronald Schmitz (Marilyn); and his sibling-in-law Kelly Morrison. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Tri-C Fire Department.
