He was predeceased by: his sisters, Barbara Woodson (Mark) and Bertha Durako (Tom); and his parents, Lawrence Koester and Cecilia Koester. He is survived by: his wife Judith Koester; his sons, Lawrence (Linda), Ronald (Pamela) and Michael (Aimee); his grandchildren, Jocelyn Koester, Samantha Walk Koester (Mason), Lydia Koester, Patrick Koester and Maggie Koester; and his brothers, Joseph Koester and John Koester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
