He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Lysander and Cora Pauline Smith (Harris); his wife Donna Johnston Smith; his siblings, John, Mike, Ellis Smith, Terry Schaffer and Dora D. Smith; and his foster son Paul.
He is survived by: his children, James (Kate), David Smith (Tanya) of Shelbina, MO and Heather Hudson (Everett) of Emden, MO; his stepchildren, Vickie Lamb of Bellflower, CA, Jimmy Pence (Melissa) of Carthage, IL, Johnny Pence (Cheryl) of LaHarpe, IL and Timmy Pence (Tresa) of Lomax, IL; and his siblings, Larry Smith, David Smith (Mary Lou), Patrick Smith (Phyllis), Marge O'Donnell, Phyllis Foser and Rita Smith. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
