He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Alton and Marie Louise Barton (Bowden); and his grandson Nicholas Barton. He is survived by: his children, Johnny Barton of Columbia, Jerry Barton of Fayette, James Barton (Shelly) of Independence, Joshua Barton of Fayette, Jeremy Barton of Boonville, Katie Shiflett (Anthony) of Fayette, Jessie Messer (Austin) of Higbee and Shelby Taylor (Roger) of Fayette; and his siblings, Jody Barton of Boonville, Julie Barton of Columbia and Jina Hazlett of Boonville. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Jim's Residence (166 Co Rd 302, Fayette, MO 65248).
