He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hanlen, and Catherine Hanlen, Sr. (Hayes); his wife Janet Vaughn Hanlen; and his stepchildren, Joseph Vaughn and Jamie Hempen.
He is survived by: his children, Shayne Talbott and John J Hanlen III.
A graveside service was held on Friday, October 24th 2025 at 12:30 PM at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery (2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO 63129).
