He was predeceased by: his parents, Jim Medley and Bettye Jean Avery (Sutton); his stepfather Jack Avery; his grandparents, Tom and Bernice "Mamie" Shelley; his sons, Ryan Ashley Shelley and Bryce Aaron Shelley; his siblings, James David Shelley and Linda Jean Sidman; and his brothers-in-law, James Carroll "Jim" Owens and Terry Ray Passet.
He is survived by: his wife Kathy Shelley (Passet) of Festus; his daughters, Brooke Catherine Portell (Clint) of Festus and Dionna Marie Portell (Gabe) of Farmington; his siblings-in-law, Carol Jo Shelley of Pevely, Donna Kay Owens of Festus and Todd Mahn of DeSoto; his mother-in-law Catherine "Pooch" Mahn of DeSoto; his grandchildren, Baylee, Jenna Portell, Madax Timothy, Kingston and Mya Portell; his stepgrandchildren, Lillian and Mason; and his pets, Tobi and Ellie. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
