Though Melvin may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the memories held dear by his family and friends, a guiding light that illuminates their paths in times of darkness.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Emery Payton and Belva Payton (Aud); his former wife Winiona Garrett Payton; his wife Eathel Hicks Payton; and his siblings, Robert, Vernon, Clifford Payton and Theda Ferwerda.
He is survived by: his daughter Gina Woollums-Strong (William "Greg"); and his sister Ruth Payton. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 22nd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services (1100 Iron Bridge Rd, Poplar Bluff, MO 63901). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 22nd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
