He was predeceased by: his parents, John Dean and Betty Lee Fickel Spilman. He is survived by: his wife Lynn Spilman; his children, Brooke Baker (Richard) of Davenport, Iowa and Jason Spilman (Kristi) of Rock Island, Illinois; his grandchildren, Croix Baker, Serena Baker and Valenzya Spilman; and his siblings, Sue Spilman of Bloomfield, Iowa, Carol Orona (Dan) of Bloomfield, Iowa and Bill Spilman (Sarah) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Davis County Dollars for Scholars.
