He was predeceased by: his parents, Hamer Chaplin and Coy Doyle Chaplin; his grandson Austin John Leapley; his siblings, Hamer Chaplin, Helen Robinson, Wanda Mae Smith, Virginia Helms and Bernice Kleinfelter; his brother-in-law Bruce Fowler; and his nephew Tony Fowler.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Jeanne Saxbury Leapley; his sons, Joe Chaplin of Hannibal, MO, Dennis Leapley (Laura) of Maryville, IL, John Leapley (Mary Kay) of Liberty, IL, Travis Leapley and Jason Leapley (Dionne) of Hannibal, MO; his siblings, Lyndel Chaplin (Dee) of Quincy, IL, Jesse Chaplin (Judy) of Plainville, IL, Dan Chaplin (Diane) of St. Charles, MO, Karen Fowler of Pittsfield, IL and Grace Coppess (Max) of Stanwood, IA; and his grandsons, Zachary Leapley, Kyle Leapley, Kody Leapley, Tyler Leapley, Trevor Leapley, Ethan Leapley and Zander Leapley. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 9th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. (302 S 5th St, Hannibal, MO 63401). A funeral service was held on Thursday, July 10th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
