We announce the death of Joseph Mitchell Shaffer of Harrisonville, Missouri, who passed away on October 17, 2026, at the age of 80. Joseph will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Arthur and Ruth Lorena Shaffer (Foster); his children, Ruth C. Shaffer, Angela Kay Shaffer, Rhonda Lynn Shaffer and Terry Shaffer; and his granddaughter Kiya Renai Shaffer.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Shaffer; his children, Joseph Jay Shaffer (Cammie) and Lori Shaffer; his grandchildren, Corey Pastorino, Blake Shaffer (Kailey), Maranda Shaffer and Ashelyn Shaffer; his great grandchildren, Bellamy Prim and Merritt Brookes; and his siblings, Dean Shaffer (Sue) and Phyllis Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21st 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Atkinson Funeral Home - Harrisonville (600 W Wall St, Harrisonville, MO 64701). A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 21st 2026 at 11:45 AM at the Oak Hill Cemetery (715 E Mill St, Butler, MO 64730).
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the family.
