He was predeceased by : his parents, Willard Robert and Lela May McGowen (Davis); his wife Mary; and his brothers, Robert and William.

He is survived by : his sons, Fred McGowen of Harrisonville, MO, Richard L. McGowen II of Tacoma, WA and Juan E. McGowen of Green Castle, MO; and his sisters, Mary Thompson of Harrisonville, MO and Margaret Coons of Chariton, IA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Atkinson Funeral Home (600 W Wall St, Harrisonville, MO 64701). A funeral service was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonville Dog Park.
