He was predeceased by: his parents, Guillermo Herrera and Fidencia Herrera (Lopez) of San Antonio, TX.; and his brother-in-law Logan Shinn. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Ann Herrera (Gioia) of Herculaneum, Missouri; his children, Clayton D. Herrera of Sainte Genevieve, Missouri, Anna K. Ellmer of Imperial and Jennifer H. Ellmer of St. Louis, Missouri; his siblings, Bill Herrera (Hilda) of San Antonio, Paul Herrera (Velda) of Colorado, Ursula Herrera of Eagle Pass, Irene Garcia (Lupe) of San Antonio, Norma Shinn of Boerne, Angie Webb (Brian) of Boerne and Teresa Almanza-Herrera (Steve) of San Antonio, Texas; and his grandchildren, Gabriel, Jameson, Violet and Christopher. He is also survived by many other family members and dear friends.
