He was predeceased by : his parents, Norvel Lafate "Bert" and Goldie Valinda Essary (Crane); his sister Hattie Bickel (Arnold); his nephews, Brian Essary and Darrell Bickel; and his friends, Richard and Dorothy Clardy.

He is survived by : his wife Selma Essary; his children, Lisa Harris (Darrell) of Jefferson City and Robert Wayne Essary (JoAnn) of Jefferson City; his siblings, David Essary (Susan McClure), Mary Ann Roberts (Jim), Carolyn Huettenmeyer (Jim) and Norman Essary (Lynn); his granddaughters, LeslieAnn Irey (Michael) and Melissa Essary; and his great grandchildren, Trenten, Lincoln and Riann Irey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
