He was predeceased by: his son Archie; his wife Melba Casteel; his parents, Archie Casteel and Isabella Casteel; and his grandson Braxton Smith.

He is survived by: his children, June Duncan (Wesley) of La Center, Joni Cosgrove (Edward) of Kansas City, Reverend Timothy Casteel (Robin) of Pleasant Hill and Delinda Smith (Timothy) of Lee's Summit. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
