With sadness, we share the passing of Leona May Abernathey Widick (Independence, Missouri). Leona, born on October 9, 1942, passed away on August 31, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, John Abernathey and Lucille Abernathey (Williamson); and her brother Myron "Mike" Abernathey. She is survived by: her brother Marvin Abernathey (Donna); her sister-in-law Sally Abernathey; her nieces, Pamela Huff (Whitney) and Kathy Kesner (Max); her nephew James Darrin Widick (Susan); her grandchildren, Melynda Marchael Meredith (Wade), James Andrew Marchael (Anne), Ryan Kesner (Amanda Dunning), Justin Kesner (Lana), Abbey Widick Moise (Sean) and Allie Widick (Matt Huskey); and her great grandchildren, Rory Elliott Meredith, Thomas Meredith, Ella Kesner and Easton Kesner.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Carson-Speaks Chapel (1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64052). A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
