He is survived by: his wife Nina; his children, Tamatoa Mariteragi (Vanina), Poema Harrys-Mariteragi (Jean-Baptiste) and Ruma Swartzentruber (Enos); and his grandchildren, Maruatua Mariteragi, Noheamarania Mariteragi, Poeiti Mariteragi Tehamai Mariteragi, Heiatua Paredes and Ririfatuariihaunui "Samuel" Swartzentruber. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

“I was in Tahiti twice in 50s when our dad (Allena) was assigned by the church to the Islands. I was only 11 when we left in 1959 but remember it well. I, like my parents have such fond memories of those years. Riri was very much a part of my memory and I am saddened to hear of his passing away. Please accept my deepest regards for the entire Mariterangi family. How I wish I could join you on Thursday but please be assured that my thoughts and prayers will be with you David Breckenridge”
