He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Merlin McCarty and Laura Lucille Howard McCarty; his sister-in-law Vicky Diane Landford McCarty; and his nephew Jason Lee Paxton. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Ann Jefferson McCarty; his siblings, Linda Kay McCarty Paxton and Thomas Joseph McCarty; his son Ronald Merlyn; his grandchildren, Heather Amber McCarty Herdman (Tyler), Heidi Ashlynn McCarty Rieck (Joshua) and Patrick La McCarty; his daughter Arya Anne Renee Herdman; his stepgrandsons, Troy Alan Jackson (Brandi Lynn) and Cody Daniel Jackson; his son Mason Jackson; and his nieces and nephews, Bradley Dean Paxton, Shaun McCarty, Sara McCarty Reed (Elijah) and Julie McCarty Langfield (Matt).
