She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry Sterling and Lucille Sterling; her husband Leo Helling; her sister Helen Bergin; her brother-in-law Bob Bergin; and her son Michael.
She is survived by: her sons, Dennis Helling (Janette) of Eatonville, Ken Helling (Kari) of Sumner and Don Helling (Sonia) of Seattle; her niece Pam; her nephew Bob Bergin of Kansas City, Missouri; and her grandchildren, Kevin Helling (Stephanie), Tim Helling (Rebecca), Michele Kinney (Don) and Mike Kast (Danielle). She is also survived by several great-grandchildren and additional nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Velma's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Joseph School in Chehalis, Washington.
