He was predeceased by: his parents, George Wankum and Louise Wankum (Porting); his son Jeffrey Wankum; his siblings, Mildred Wankum, Bernadine Rehagen (Tony), Helen Jaegers (Leonard), Wilbert Wankum (Roselyn), Art Wankum and Elmer Wankum; and his sister-in-law Lavon Wankum.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Marie Wankum (Schneider); his children, Lisa Hurst (Donnie), Kim McCutchen (Scott), Lori Weaver (Jason) and Gina Krummen (Larry); his daughter-in-law Jessica Wankum (Hamacher); his siblings, Roman Wankum and Alice Baumhoer (Wankum); his sisters-in-law, Mary Wankum and Catherine Wankum; and his grandchildren, Travis Hurst, Jacob Hurst, Jessica Goben (Erik), Amanda Patrick (Tony), Nick McCutchen, Ethan Wankum, Paxten Wankum, Ainsley Wankum, Samantha Martin (Chuck), Blake Weaver (Faith), Danielle Weaver, Bailey Pletz (Jeremy), Regan Neuner (Sam) and Anna Krummen. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
