He is survived by: his spouse Kim Bruns (Chiles); his children, Brittany Fitzgerald (Justin) and Seth Bruns; his mother Judy Bruns; his sister Amy Castillo (Michael); his sisters-in-law, Julie Chowning (Mike) and Jamie Chiles; his nieces and nephews, Paige Castillo, Emily Chowning, Caleb Chowning (Alaze) and Lyndsey Church (Adrian); and his pets, Emma, Tucker and Cooper. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Darrick's honor to the "Officer Bruns Memorial Scholarship," in care of Kim Bruns.
