He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Matthews and Eula Matthews; and his siblings, Beverly Shephard (Charles) and Jim Matthews. He is survived by: his wife Pat (Woolsey); his son Donnie; his daughter-in-law Sherri Matthews; his granddaughters, Tiffany Pruett (Preston) and Allie Matthews; his great grandchildren, Camden and Kendall Pruett; his sister-in-law Peggy Matthews; and his pet Abby.
