He was predeceased by: his parents, Loyal Eugene Nelms and Marion Ferol Nelms; and his siblings, Roger Mackey, Dean Turner and Marilyn Karst.

He is survived by: his sisters, Lorie Joslin of Kansas City and Martha Henry of Cassville. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
