He was predeceased by: his sister Bonnie A. Mikel; and his pet Duke. He is survived by: his wife Patricia "Patsy" McCarthy; his children, Erik McCarthy (Katy) and Shayna Keary (David); and his grandchildren, Cotton, Wren and Mica McCarthy.
A long-time member of the Boy Scouts of America, he served on the Foundation Board of Troop 62 and spent many summers as staff physician at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation.
