He was predeceased by: his fiancée Amy Slotin. He is survived by: his significant other Samantha Williams; his parents, Michael Scott Zavelo and Kimberly Campbell Zavelo; his sister Zaley Zavelo Nelson; his brother-in-law Beau; and his nieces, Ada and Torunn.

In 2020, Sagan met his fiancée, Amy Slotin, and the two shared a beautiful pandemic romance rooted in tenderness, humor, and deep connection.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Family Services.
