“As first cousins we have many fond memories. Croquet, canasta and playing in the big barn are a few that readily come to mind. Steve had an infectious laugh that we remember with smiles. As we lost our grandparents and parents our family get-togethers subsided but were not forgotten. Those were simpler times when family gatherings held importance. “I grew up with Steve in our small hometown, in southern Iowa. I remember the two of us getting lost in the cornfield just east of his home. We weren’t big enough to see over the top of the stalks and were in a juvenile state of panic. When we found our way out, we sang the Iowa corn song. I kept in touch with him and wondered why I didn’t hear back after I wished him a happy birthday this year. Now I understand. He will be missed.”
