He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Cope and Helen Cope (Cader); his brothers, Mike and Steve Cope; and his brother-in-law Joe Kramer.

He is survived by: his wife Marlene Cope; his son Richard Mizell (Michelle); his grandchildren, Carol McCubbin (Shane), Danny Mizell and Tiffany Keeley (Khris); his great grandchildren, Adalynn and Hunter McCubbin; his sister Jane Kramer; his nephew Edward Kramer (Lora); and his niece Ginny Kramer.
