He is survived by: his wife Lela Gerhold (Rouse); his son Matthew Gerhold (Peggy); his brother-in-law Terry Baker; and his grandson John "JT" Gerhold. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Laverne's memory to the youth summer church camp scholarship fund at Hamilton Street Baptist Church in Kirksville, Missouri.
