He was predeceased by: his parents, David Lavern and Juanita Lorene Gunnels (Teter); his wife Connie Perry; his son Michael Gunnels; his grandchildren, Carissa and Blake; and his sister Cheri O'Haver.

He is survived by: his daughters, Christy Bristow (Rob) of La Plata, Missouri and Nikisha Couch of La Plata, Missouri; his daughter-in-law Jennifer Gunnels of South Gifford, Missouri; his sisters, Tharen Skjeveland (Jorgen) of La Plata and Novenda Hartsock of Kirksville, Missouri; his grandchildren, Derrick, Timerrick Gunnels, Dillon Huddleston, Lance, Brooklynn and Kady Couch; and his great grandchildren, Aydin, Rue, Evander, Eriatreya Gunnels, Treylea Couch and Samuel Huddleston. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
