He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Schreiweis and Vertrice Schreiweis (Martin); his daughters, Pamela Longobardi and Melody Schreiweis; his son-in-law Craig Celgin; and his sister Nancy Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Mettie L. McMurray; his children, Wanda Celgin of McKinney, Pattie Mezel (David) of Lamar, Missouri and Leonard Schreiweis (Sara) of Joplin, Missouri.; his sister Karen Klingele (Ken) of Independence, Missouri; his grandchildren, Andrew Longobardi, David Longobardi (Eugenia) of Nevada, Jared Schreiweis (Kyra) of Joplin, Missouri., Clayton Celgin of McKinney, Texas, Carter Celgin (Colin Johnson) of Orlando, Florida, JT Mezel (Kayla) of Joplin, Missouri and Jessica Miller (Chase) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.; and his stepgrandchildren, Craig Celgin, Michael, Tara and Travis Smith. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, with another great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, August 25th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Daniel Funeral Home (1201 Broadway St, Lamar, MO 64759). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 26th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, August 26th 2026 at the Newport Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested and should be made payable to Newport Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
